Golf Top of the Week:

(Reference: Sunday, 7/16)
If one of your playing partners is searching for a lost ball for several minutes and cannot find it (ie. - Rob O. on #15), please show some golf courtesy and try to help them find it. Next time it could be you. (Kirk, Frank or Hector)

Reminder to self: Always check spelling before posting a note. A golf "tip" is always more helpful than a "top".

Here may be a useful Tip-of-the Week --
To get out of a poor golfing rut, break the hole into yardages, working backwards from the green, with the desired approach distance and club you want to try for the specific hole's green as the end result of your tee shot.

Most people will find they are focusing more on hitting a set distance, by determining where that lies in the fairway. As a result you a straighter shot than just "grippin' & rippin' it".

For example, Hole #2, a Par 5, 500+ yds. You hit a 200yd. shot twice, and your in the Wedge distance, from the fairway, into a real tiny green. You stick the full wedge in there tight, and it may be a birdie for ya.

How many times have you played this tight hole and put yourself in trouble?

Henne, that's great strategy if I was playing from the Womens tees, but from the Mens tees, where most of us play from, Hole #2 is 575 yards. Let's see, 200 + 200= 400. If I could hit a wedge 175 yds...

Wait a minute, is Henne doing some sublte bragging here?

maybe .....

A change in diet (cigars) has led to some real freaky hits lately. I have twice nuked a 7 iron over 200yds (some windage, yes) ... but I digress ... I apologize for the yardage error for my example. So, to restate the theory, hit it 220, 220, and you are left with a wedge shot of 135. More realistic, I agree ....
