What Can YOU Do for YOUR Course?

Men's Club Members!

I want to hear from the membership what they think the Membership can do to help the playing experience @ Mountain View G.C.

Remember --- ideas should focus on the "contribution" to the efforts by those in charge of the course, by the Membership as a group or as individuals.

Let's hear from you whose experiences at the course are "good, but ..."

I'll jump in first, with some very basic things that can be accomplished by every member, which will help the "experience".

#1) READY GOLF - Be ready to play and keep the pace moving. "Honors" aren't necessary if a player is not ready for his turn when he gets to the next tee. You should NEVER be more than a hole behind for any reason. There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON for a group to be 2, 3 or 4 holes behind. (Yes, this happens every Sunday in the Mens Club). If you have a slow player in your group, PLEASE encourage them to keep up the pace. If you are generally a slow group, NEVER play a fivesome. Please, NO MORE EXCUSES. Just Do It!!!

2) COMMON COURTESY - If someone in your group has hit a wayward shot and has a possible lost ball, please show some courtesy and help them look for it. There is no reason for you to go to your ball down the middle of the fairway, while someone else in your group is well behind you looking for theirs (I see this almost every week). Also, try to keep an eye on your ball until it lands. Looking away when you hit a bad shot, will only lower your chances of finding it. If it's possible that it went out of bounds, play a provisional ball until you reach the point were you think it went out.

3) SHOW UP ON TIME - Show up before 7 AM on Sunday's, not 7:15 or 7:30. The course is running a business and needs to get ALL of the Mens Club members out in the starting times they have generously allotted. Showing up late slows the course down for the whole day.

I like Doug's "on-course behavior" suggestions.

I'll add that speeding play around the green would help, too. The closest to the pin on the green grabs the flag to "Pull or Tend" for his partners. Then, the first-in grabs the flag and plays "caddie" whilst the others putt out. All putters tend to their own putt, fixing ball marks in their area while they wait to put. Be ready to putt when it's your turn.

i have an idea...how about making the course with pin placements that encourage two putting rather than five putting...that would speed up play

If your five putting, you should be practicing at that little course just north of the 101 and west of the Victoria exit.

agree with toler- most muni have 3 type of pin and tee box placements:
weekend=easiest/shortest
weekday=a bit harder
tournament=the most difficult
for a weekly skins match, 'normal' weekend pin placements might make sense. for the bigger events, sure make it more difficult.
fyr- 2 years ago, sterling hills moved their men's club event starting times to noon because the men's club bottlenecked the course...not certain if still the case....
